Common causes of deck staining

Planters, tubs and pots Pots and planters look great on your deck. Its a nice way to brighten things up.

But when you decide to move them then you can see what lurks underneath - the timber fades at a different rate leaving unsightly "pot" marks, or algae, which loves damp areas, have decided to make it their home!

One way to prevent these problems is to place the planters on plant stands - or even the small terracotta 'feet' that are available in any garden center. Rust Marks hard to remove, and often appears as a result of the underside of metal furniture rusting.

You can try a rust remover, but test a patch first. Sometimes its the better of 2 evils...rust of a light patch. Sanding also works although you will need to restain the area again..

Best way to prevent it - paint the underside of metal furniture.

Decking Furniture Decking furniture looks awesome, but often sits in the same place for ages.

It can cause marking and leave "feet" marks. Sometimes cause the deck to fade at a different rate.

Quick cleaning tip for marks - try a scrub with hot soapy water. Also move the furniture around to let the sun get to the normally shaded areas under the furniture so it can age evenly.
